Our New Jersey Initiatives

Senate Bill S 1237

Assembly Bill A 2583

  • This bill requires the Department of Health department to disseminate information on seizure first aid to employers.

  • This bill requires the state to provide the information disseminated by the department to employees and post the information in a prominent place within the business’s workplace.

We have successfully passed New Jersey legislation, Paul’s Law for Seizure Safe Schools to create a safer environment not only for the students, but school personnel as well.

Why We Fight

  • 65 million people worldwide have epilepsy

  • 2.7 million Americans have epilepsy

  • 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime

  • 1 in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime

  • 1 in 3 people with epilepsy live with seizures that cannot be controlled by any medication

  • Epilepsy can happen at any age, but is most common in young children and older adults

  • 12,000 children in New Jersey alone have been diagnosed with epilepsy

  • 92,700 people in New Jersey live with epilepsy

School personnel are required to take seizure first aid, health and safety training. There are online courses which can be taken through Epilepsy Alliance of America (https://www.epilepsyallianceamerica.org) or Epilepsy Foundation of America (https://www.epilepsy.com).
